As we age, the fat around our eyeballs bulges forward as the supporting tissues stretch, and the skin loosens. When this occurs, many look toward surgical intervention to look younger. That’s when eyelid surgery can be the most effective. While most surgeons remove the fat that has sagged forward, Dr. Bailey prefers to reposition the fat and simultaneously lift the upper edge of the cheek fat. This leads to more natural-looking results and an improvement in overall facial volume.

Eyelid Surgery Candidates
Eyelid surgery is typically performed on patients over 30. However, some people have puffy or tired-looking eyes in their teens or twenties. This is due to a familial tendency for the fat surrounding the eyeball to sag outwards and downwards. If you have these problems, you may benefit from eyelid surgery at any age.
Individuals with no fold in the upper eyelid can also benefit from a blepharoplasty. For them, this procedure can create a pleasing and natural fold that is still Asian.
Eyelid Surgery Procedure
This procedure is performed under either local (injections to freeze the tissues) or general anesthesia as an outpatient. Once the area is ready, incision lines are carefully drawn in specific locations, so the scar is hidden in the natural eyelid crease. After the incisions, the fat is redistributed, the muscles are tightened, and excess skin is excised. At the end of the procedure, the incisions are closed using either removable sutures or sometimes skin adhesive.
Treatment Outcome
We recommend avoiding strenuous activity for 24-48 hours after the surgery. You will have puffiness and bruising of the eyelids for 7-14 days. The results of blepharoplasty procedures are usually long-lasting, and few people require re-operation until 10-15 years later.
Like a face-lift, the surgery will make you look less tired and more cheerful and alert. Because the surgery does not improve the skin elasticity (and therefore fine lines), you may get additional improvement from fractional laser treatments or chemical peels.
