Body Lift Candidates
You may be a good candidate for this procedure if you have significant soft tissue looseness in one or multiple body areas. Additionally, you must also be in good health and have realistic goals. Smoking should be avoided if you want to undergo this procedure, and it is recommended that you lead a healthy lifestyle with a proper fitness routine.
Body Lift Procedure
A body lift procedure is performed under general anesthesia. This is typically an outpatient procedure, meaning that an extended hospital stay is usually not needed. However, some patients may require an overnight stay, depending on the extent of their surgery.
During the operation, Dr. Bailey will remove excess fat and skin from the abdomen and torso and tighten the abdominal muscles. Liposuction may be recommended for further body contouring. Dr. Bailey typically places On-Q™ catheters will usually be placed on each side of the abdomen. These are very small tubes, about the size of an I.V. catheter, but longer, that pass a steady flow of the local anesthetic into the area of surgery for the first 3-4 days. They significantly reduce the pain and the number of painkillers you need.
For some patients, Dr. Bailey can augment the buttock from the excess skin of the lower back. This is called an auto-augmentation buttock lift. A body lift is often times done in tandem with other “lift” procedures such as breast lift or arm lift. During your consultation, Dr. Bailey will discuss the best way to achieve your desired aesthetic.
There will be postoperative discomfort, which is typically managed with oral painkillers and will subside after a few days. Drainage tubes will be left in for 10-14 days post-op to collect excess blood and fluid. A compression binder may also be worn to help promote proper healing.
Patients can typically return to work within two weeks, and swelling will subside within a few weeks. Strenuous activity should be avoided for 4-6 weeks. Scars from the procedure will naturally fade within a few months following the procedure.
