A bump in the middle of your nose can draw much attention. While a nasal hump may not necessarily concern others, you may still feel self-conscious about it. If this is the case, rhinoplasty surgery may be a good option. This procedure can be done safely here at our Newport Beach office. Dr. Bailey specializes in these procedures and will work with you to ensure you get the best result possible. If you’re interested in getting started, schedule your appointment today.

How Does a Nasal Hump Develop?
A nasal hump is often genetic. However, in some cases, a hump could develop due to a traumatic physical injury, such as a car accident. A nasal hump can also form if the bone or cartilage heals unevenly. In any case, rhinoplasty can address the hump and improve the shape of your nose.
What Are the Signs?
The extent of your hump can be the determining factor in whether or not you want to undergo surgery. If you have a slight hump, dermal fillers can make it less noticeable. However, this is a temporary solution. If you want a more permanent correction, surgery is more effective. This is also recommended if your nasal hump is especially pronounced.
Rhinoplasty for a Nasal Hump
Local anesthesia (injections to freeze the tissues) with some sedation is typically used during rhinoplasty surgery. Still, most patients choose a general anesthetic (they go to sleep). During the procedure, incisions are made inside each nostril. Often, these are joined with a small incision between the nostrils. This allows Dr. Bailey to lift the skin and simultaneously see both sides of the nose.
This is called an “open rhinoplasty.” Other carefully placed external incisions are sometimes needed for problems like excessively large nostrils. A septoplasty can be performed along with a rhinoplasty to provide you with both a beautiful and comfortable result. This is typically an outpatient procedure, meaning you can go home the same day after the operation.
