How Do Baggy Lower Eyelids Occur?
Baggy lower eyelids can develop as you age. Over time, the tissues around your eyes weaken, including some of the muscles supporting your eyelids. Additionally, the fat that helps support the eyes can bulge forwards, causing eyelids to appear puffy. However we all lose fat in the eye area with time, causing hollowing, so simple fat removal is not a good idea.
What Are the Signs?
If you appear to have bags under your eyes and/or appear tired even after a full night’s rest, eyelid surgery may be in order. Though having baggy lower eyelids is not indicative of a medical concern, you may nevertheless feel self-conscious. If you feel unhappy about the appearance of your eyelids, Dr. Bailey can help.
Treatments for Baggy Lower Eyelids
Dr. Bailey does lower eyelid surgery under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. During the surgery, the eye socket fat is redistributed, muscles are tightened, and excess skin is excised to create a tighter lid. The cheek fat is lifted to fill the hollowing. Incisions are made just below the eyelashes or inside the lid, so they are very difficult to spot.
